Pastor Jonathan Doss was born at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in the town of Mt. Airy, North Carolina on February 28, 1964. His parents, Billy and Laura Ann Doss, were true, God-fearing Christians and raised him to know that, above all else, God must be first. Although never pressuring him to “be saved”, they exemplified a humble, and evident walk with the Lord that left an indelible impression on him in his early years.
At the age of 11, during a church revival service, Pastor Doss knew the Lord was speaking to him about the need to be saved. He gently nudged his Daddy to allow him to pass to go forward and answer the Holy Spirit’s wooing to be converted. Although young, Pastor Doss knew that the Lord was dealing with him about his personal need to be saved. He has said many times that had he rejected the Lord that night, he knew he would be in danger of hell fire. But thanks be to the Lord, he obeyed the Holy Spirit and began his walk with the Lord that night.
After graduating high school in 1982, Pastor Doss joined the United States Air Force, and was stationed in Charleston, South Carolina. The Air Force provided the stability needed for him to marry his longtime sweetheart, Miss Sara Wagoner. Pastor had known he wanted to marry this shy, pretty girl since he was 15 years old, and in 1983 the Lord granted that desire.
Shortly after marriage, he was assigned a tour of duty in the Azores. It was during this time in his life that the Lord really began to work in his heart and deal with him about the call to preach the gospel. Upon arriving back in Charleston in 1988, Pastor began North Charleston Baptist Church (name amended to KJBBC in later years) in his one-bedroom apartment, across the street from Charleston Air Force Base.
As the years passed, the Lord blessed Pastor and Sara with three children. Ben, Ellie, and Luke are now grown, married, and have children of their own. Pastor Doss and Miss Sara are now enjoying their loving role as “Papa & Nanny” to seven beautiful grandchildren.
Pastor Doss’s style of preaching and teaching is expository, verse-by-verse, and line-by-line. You will not walk away from church not having opened your Bible! On the contrary, get ready to turn some pages, as Pastor wants you to see for yourself what the Bible has to say, not what a commentary or a man says.
His desire for King James Bible Baptist Church is to see its members fall in love with the word and words of the living God, and not only to know it, but to apply it in every area of their lives.
As a church, we thank God for a godly Pastor, who loves God’s word, and sets a faithful example for his sheep to follow.
1 Timothy 5:17
“Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.”
